Data scientists collect, organize, analyze, and visualize data. As a data scientist, you will either work in academia, the public sector, or in industry wherever large amounts of data are gathered and analyzed, e.g., in marketing, manufacturing, operations research, or logistics. Many data science projects in industry and academia currently cannot be realized as there are not enough educated data scientists available on the market. Thus, the job perspectives of data scientists are excellent. These perspectives together with the impact that the results of your work as a data scientist will have made the Harvard Business Review call data scientist “the sexiest job of the 21st century” (Harvard Business Review, 2012).
