Описание программы обучения "Ethics – Economics, Law and Politics (EELP)"

The Master programme in „Ethics - Economics, Law and Politics" (EELP) is an interdisciplinary and research-focused degree programme. In the style of very successful similar study courses in the English-speaking world four faculties carry out the programme: philosophy, law, economics and social science. The theoretical and empirical insight of the three socio-scientific disciplines is combined with the explicitly normative orientation of philosophy.

The content of the programme consists of four main topics, each with a normative and a descriptive, respectively analytic emphasis:

  • Globalisation and Justice
  • Markets and Morality
  • Administration and Responsibility
  • Welfare and Dignity

A competent approach to these topics demands knowledge about the frameworks of law and the political circumstances as well as economical expertise and competence for normative reflection. All those skills are conveyed in the course of study. Thus, our students are enabled to comprehend the full extent of current challenges like the financial crisis, global poverty, growing costs of health care systems etc.

The programme is addressed to excellent Bachelor Degree holders and young professionals, who aim to fulfil major tasks in politics or economy or who aspire to an outstanding and future-oriented research-activity.

Students are trained to become excellent problem solvers, highly qualified in the field of research – a profile of qualification that is more and more requested in business companies, in politics and organisations. In the first year of their studies, the students acquire basic information; in the second year they develop their own project. Applied projects can be combined with an internship abroad, research oriented projects can be carried out at our international partner institutes.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Ethics – Economics, Law and Politics (EELP)"

The interdisciplinary orientation of the programme “Ethics – Economics, Law and Politics” (EELP) qualifies degree holders to pursue a PhD or to carry out outstanding professional activities in politics and economy.

ACADEMIC CAREER OR LEADERSHIP POSITIONS IN POLITICS AND ECONOMY

The degree holders will develop the requested abilities for employment in research and beyond. The Master’s degree permits to pursue a PhD in one of the participating disciplines. Beyond research the degree holders are prepared for a wide range of responsible positions – in the management of companies, organisations or political parties, as consultants to NGOs, in task forces of administration as well as in the fields of organisational development and human resources development.

SOLVING PROBLEMS IN COMPLEX CONTEXTS

More and more, challenges and problems of the professional world ask for an insight in complex contexts and for the consideration of ethical aspects at the same time. For instance, if you work in the environmental department of a leading business company you have to know the standards of environmental policy as well as the regulatory framework and it is your task to settle matters of ecological responsibility. The EELP-programme reacts to these challenges by teaching the special skills and knowledge of philosophy, economics, law and politics in combination.

By improving their competences of normative reflection and rational thinking, the holders of the EELP-degree are enabled to understand complex environments, to acquire new fields of knowledge quickly and to take decisions with regard to their ethical consequences and implications.

GENERALISTS WITH UNIQUE FEATURES

On the one hand the Master’s degree programme EELP and the interdisciplinary mentoring of the master thesis offer ideal opportunities for an early specialisation. The students can develop an individual profile with unique features. On the other hand they are provided with general and fundamental skills and strategies for problem-solving. Thus, our degree holders are generalists, who can work in different areas of operation. And because of the international orientation of the programme, they are well prepared for the international employment market.

Учебный план программы обучения "Ethics – Economics, Law and Politics (EELP)"

The degree programme „Ethics – Economics, Law and Politics“ (EELP) is regularly studied over a period of 4 semesters (two years of study). It is conceived as a project-oriented programme.

The MA EELP offers to study the MA Double Degree Programme PELP/ EELP at the University Graz in Austria.

PROJECT-ORIENTED STUDIES

The first year of studies is focused on fundamental specialized knowledge of ethics, politics, law and economics. In the second year the individual interests of the students in practical experience and research are improved and extended in their own projects. Those projects are systematically directed to the completion of a Master thesis in the fourth semester.

Applied projects are combined with an internship in the economy or an area related to politics, which is lasting four to six months. For instance, the internship can be completed at one of our partner corporations and the Master thesis is written about the ethical deficiencies of corporate communications.

Research-oriented projects do not have to be combined with an internship. They are more closely related to the research of the EELP-faculty. A research abroad is possible, for example at the Department of Practical Philosophy at the University of Graz or at the Ethics Institute at the University of Utrecht.

COURSE OF STUDIES

The programme offers nine modules; seven have to be completed by the students. Standard time to degree: four semesters, Workload: overall 120 ECTS – 96 ECTS for certified modules, 20 ECTS for the Master thesis, 6 ECTS for the oral final examination.
